ALLIANZ CUMANN Na mBUNSCOL

BOYS’ INDOOR FOOTBALL HEAT 5: CLONOE

Allianz Cumann na mBunscol held its fifth heat of the annual 5-a-side Boys’ Indoor Gaelic Football for primary schools in Clonoe Community Centre. Six local schools entered teams for this qualifying heat, which produced high levels of skill and sportsmanship from all.

Section ‘A’ contained Gaelscoil Uí Néill, Cluain Eo; St. John’s P.S. Kingsisland and St. Brigid’s P.S. Brocagh. A play-off win for Gaelscoil Uí Néill saw them top the section with Kingsisland claiming the runners-up spot.

A brave Brocagh side just missed out on qualifying. Gaelscoil Uí Néill and Kingsisland therefore made the semi-finals.

Section ‘B’ comprised teams from Holy Family P.S. Aughamullan; Primate Dixon P.S. Coalisland and St. Patrick’s P.S. Annaghmore. Yet again a play-off was needed to determine who made the semi-finals. The lads from Annaghmore topped their section with the Primate Dixon boys joining them in the semi-finals. Alas for Holy Family P.S. qualification was just out of reach despite playing some fabulous football.

In the semi-finals the Section winners proved their mettle. Gaelscoil Uí Néill advanced to the heat Final by seeing-off Master McQuaid’s Coalisland lads. Meanwhile, the other Section winners, Annaghmore, played a thriller with Kingsisland. This was, undoubtedly, the game of the tournament. At full-time it finished 3-2 in favour of Annaghmore. Masters O’ Neill and McGarrity’s St. John’s side had given it everything, but came up just short.

Gaelscoil Uí Néill and St. Patrick’s P.S. Annaghmore served up a 6-goal epic. Both teams were hugely determined, and they treated us to a superb final. Ultimately, the greater scoring threat of Ronan Corey and Sean Robinson’s Annaghmore side overcame Múinteoir Teresa’s gallant Gaelscoil lads – but they can be very proud of their tremendous efforts on the day. Meanwhile, a well-earned Tyrone Indoor Football County Final spot awaits the Annaghmore lads in mid-March. We wish them well. Ádh mór oraibh.

A huge word of thanks goes to our referee Marty Devlin (Stewartstown) and to the friendly staff of the Clonoe Community Centre. Patrick McGivern (Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Thír Eoghain) ensured the smooth running of the day’s games. Go raibh maith agaibh!
